I am very proud of the work our many MDRA volunteers have done over the years to work with the White Seabass Growout program. Hubbs-Seaworld informs us that the total number of fish released from MDR is calculated to be 93,753 fish!
From Bob Godfrey who got the ball rolling some 18 years ago to Paul Simon who shepherded so many fish for so many years. Our “pen pals” used to even play the graduation march song, Pomp and Circumstance, as the fish were released. Many have lent a hand to baby those fish. Now we need to step it up and repair and rebuild the pens for the next round and next 15 years of conservation work. If you weld, wire, or have sources to supplies, or can lend a hand. Speak up. Repairs are needed. - Or... Do we take pen one apart and build a new pen from the floats up? Pen # 2 is just in need of repair and upgraded feeder equipment, end gates, fence posts etc. Tell your 2014 president John Syzmura what you can do to help. - Grant Writing
- Electrical wiring
- Steel work for fence and Gates at end of pens
- Carpentry work and Decking materials
Labor and know how is welcome too. I've made some inquires for bids to repair and rebuild. John is into this so he is point man on the pens. He is looking into using Bellingham Marine to build a new base, may cost a lot but we would get a fantastic base to stand on for years to come. Bellingham just finished upgrading the public docks at Burton Chase park. The new docks look great! Help is welcome.
